Gadaladeniya

Gadaladeni Vihara can be reached by turning off at Pilimatalawa on Colombo – Kandy Road and proceeding one km on the Dawulagala Road. It had been built by Ganeshvaracari, the Architect from South India on a request made by King Bhuvanekabahu IV. At the beginning  it was known as Dharmakirti Vihara. Gadaladeni Vihara has been built on the South Indian Vijayanagara tradition and consists of the vihara, image house, chaitya, Bodhi Tree, two devalas and the monastic residence. A few ancient inscriptions are there as well.
