Medawachchiya is in the Divisional Secretary’s Division of Gomarankadawala of the Trincomalee District. This site can be reached by proceeding for two km from Gomarankadawala Town and traversing the gravel road to the left of the main highway. An ecclesiastical building complex is vastly spread out in the site. Ruins of image houses, Bodhighara shrines, Uposatha houses, Caityas etc are scattered all over the site. An iron smelting place had been discovered in the site during an exploration conducted in the year 2000 A.D.
